Closing of month-long Foundation Celebration at IUBAT
Education knowledge and technology enlightens the face of a nation in contemporary world : State Minister for Mass Education

Mr. Md. Motahar Hossain MP, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education viewed that the non-government universities have been greatly contributing to nation building activity process by way of their wide ranging academic endeavour carried out for human resource development.More than 54 universities in the country with their coordinated, comprehensive and modern curricula cum methodology of teaching have been engaged in capacity building of students in line with global changes. The endeavour of these universities will help the new graduates to serve facing every global challenges at home and abroad with greater skill, efficiency and expertise, he visualized.

The State Minister was speaking as chief guest at the closing ceremony of month-long Foundation Celebration of International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) on Saturday afternoon at the campus. Departmental chairs, coordinators, faculties ,students, guardians,guests from all strata of the society including leaders of Uttara community attended the function within jubilance and enthusiasm marked in the campus on the bank of the river Turag.

Mr. Motahar Hossain speaking on the occasion said education, knowledge and technology in combined action enlightens the face of a nation in the contemporary world. He praised IUBAT for continuation of extended academic activities and leading role for enhancing the glory of higher education in private sector. He appreciated the efforts of the university for giving more emphasize on English learning and IT ability for the students.

The State Minister lauded Prof Dr M Alimullah Miyan for initiating the movement of private universities in the country which ultimately culminated the process of establishment of huge network of private sector universities in the country through enactment of law by parliament. The pioneering role played through IUBAT has help the country move ahead. The State Minister expressed satisfaction that the university in addition to other departments has been operating College of Agricultural Sciences, Nursing, Tourism and Hospitality Management and opened window for Diploma holders to pursue graduation degree and IUBAT. Earlier, Mr Hossain paid tribute to martyrs of historic Language Movement and viewed no nation of the world has sacrificed lives for their mother language.

Earlier,Dr Abdul Jabber Chair, Department of Economics and Convener of Foundation Celebration in his welcome address focused wide ranging political career of Mr. Mothar Hossain who was a freedom fighter and took part in all movements for country’s independence.

The proceedings of the function with recitation from Al-Quran and National Anthem followed by one minute silence observed for lthe Shaheeds of Language Movement. Mr. Kazi Tanvir Hossain Faculty, CTHM recapped the Foundation program detailing all events organized by different Colleges and Departments during month-long celebration.

Chairs and Coordinators of Colleges and Departments went to podium one by one and focused on operational activities and called respective students to rise for introducing them with the Chief guest On the occasion. Mr. Tanvir H DeWan,Director , International program and Coordinator CBA offering vote of thanks felicitated all for contributing to resounding success of the program.

Prof. Dr M Alimullah Miyan, Vice-Chancellor and Founder in presidential speech thanked the State Minister for encouraging the university with his gracious presence on the occasion. While portraying the on-going policy, activity package and future academic programs he reiterated that “our efforts moves towards making higher education populist rather than elitist” Access to higher education should not be for 20 percent elitist section of the society, saying this he detailed IUBAT’s endeavour for constantly widening the doors of the university for lower section of the community throughout the country. “We want to make at least one technical graduate vrom each village” and to facilitate that ‘Knowledge Based Area Development Program (KBAD)” activities have been enforced strongly. This will help the needy and deserving students from poor section of the community to pursue higher education by availing internal finance for deserving and needy students the instead of at e efforts being provided by IUBAT. The program has been launched for manpower development to contribute to socio-economic development of the country., dr Miyan elaborated.

He said month-long Foundation celebration of IUBAT has reflected the wide ranging involvement through Agricultural Exhibition, Meena Bazar, Health Camp of the university, Inter-University programming contest and other extra curricular events along with curricular activities. All these immensely transpire how much importance we apply to relate our efforts with social involvement to make higher education more relevance to society, Dr Miyan clarified.

New ideas, new thoughts and new conceptual pursuit bloomed like flowers in the garden during moth long celebration have facilitated intellectual development of the students. The month-long activity package centering round the orbit of the university has further strengthend the knowledge based academic culture.he added. The Vice Chancellor thanked all for taking leading role for resounding success of the program.


nternational Conference on Quality in Higher Education at IUBAT
Socio-political transformation leads to developing knowledge and technology based society in line with global changes

Scholars attending International Conference on Quality in Higher Education expressed the view that economic and social importance of higher education reached at a very critical stage due to emerging competitiveness and increased globalized knowledge cum technology based world order. They believed higher education is facing enormous challenges for the emergence of global competition , information and communication technologies(ITC),socio-political transformations, lifelong learning, e-learning and thrust for knowledge based society. All these necessitate wide ranging skills, experience and expertise to cope with contemporary ever- increasing global challenge in every sector at home and abroad.

Two days International Conference of International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) on *Quality Control in Higher Education” was inaugurated by Advocate Mustafizur Rahman, MP, State Minister for lands on Thrustday morning at the campus. Academics from USA quoting Khalil Gibran said “ The true wealth of a nation lies not in its gold and silver,` in its learning ,wisdom and the uprightness of its sons.”

Presided by Prof. Dr. M Alimullah Miyan, Vice Chancellor and Founder of IUBAT the conference on the occasion of 21st Foundation conference dealt comprehensively various issues of higher education suggesting policy decisions to ensure quality in higher education. Large number of resource persons, academic experts, dignitaries academic experts from home and abroad including important persons from civil society, leaders of Uttara community, faculties and students attended the conference at the Lave View arena of the campus.

Dr Gholam Kibria, Professor and Fulbright Senior Specialist, Delaware State University, USA and presenting preview of his keynote paper on “Excellence in Higher Education :Essential Standard’s for Quality and Quality Assurance in the Developing countries” He explored that despite unprecedented increase in the student enrollment due to phenomenal growth of private universities no university in Bangladesh has been able to reach within well ranked 400 universities globally selected. Dr Kibria detailed different modalities and accreditation process being followed by most of the foreign universities across the globe to ensuring quality in higher education. He told the audience about an observation of a professor published in a New York based Bangla newspaper saying” The standard of university education has reached to such a level that one does not see any difference between a Masters degree holder and a lay person without any schooling, except the paper certificate”.

Syed Saad Andaleeb,Professor Pansylvenia University, USA presenting preview of his paper on “Faculty Research :A View from the Ranks” said that Higher Education Institutions (HEI) must serve their communities by establishing themselves at the heart of contemporary learning and research linking theory and practice. He said universities need to conceptualize , generate, disseminate, use and extend a body of knowledge by establishing “Knowledge Zones” and “Learning Communities” He strongly believed that universities should involve in improving the quality of life of the citizenry with the objective to introduce new ideas to bring change to build more better society. Prof. Andaleeb quote from Kahlil Gibran saying “The true wealth of a nation lies not in its gold and silver, but in its learning ,wisdom, and the uprightness of its sons.”.

Advocate Mustafizur Rahman, MP, State Minister for Lands in his address critically focused on wide ranging differences exist between the standard of Dhaka of based education with educational standard in schools of country’s rural areas. The very poor academic foundation of students coming from rural areas can hardly adjust with quality improvement process in higher education thereby zeoparding the very objective quality improvement, the State Minister opined and asked academics to understand the practical complexities in this direction...

The State Minister underscored the need of beginning a new fight in the best interest of quality in higher education for establishing knowledge, science and technology based society in the country..He said, “This will help our citizens to march ahead with competence with global communities” and added that we need to take part in generating new knowledge in line with global changes. . He added that the nation has been pursuing broad based policy of mass education by big budgetary allocation, saying thisMr Mustafizur Rahman urged the universities and academics community to play critical role in overall socio-economic development..

Prof.Dr M Alimullah Miyan presiding the inaugural session detailed out all preliminary works for alternative arrangement of higher education and enactment of Private University Act 1992 thereby Bangladesh became the owner of a codifying law for higher education in non-government sector amongst nations in SARRC regions. Highlighting the declared policy of .the university Dr Miyan told the audience that nobody will be discouraged to have access to higher education for financial inability. IUBAT has introduced internal financing through “Knowledge Based Area Development” through Multi Purpose Society ultimate objective of which is to establishing Education Bank for bring social revolution in academic arena to contribute to socio-economic development. The Vice Chancellor visualized.

Earlier, Dr Abdul Jabber, Chair, Department of Economics and Convener of International Conference in his address of welcome viewed that the international conference will usher in a new chapter in quality development in country’s higher education. Mr Alamgir Bhuiyan,Facylty and System Administrator of Computer Science Engineering introduced the operational objectives portraying wide ranging activities in all core areas of the university. Mr. Lutfar Rehman, Faculty of CBA and Member Secretary of the conference offered vote of thanks focusing great deal of activities in organizing the conference in the best interest of higher education..


Convocation 2011 of IUBAT held in buffeting manner
Convocation President Dr Hasan Mahmud urged public and private universities "Don't make education commodity. "

Speakers at IUBAT Convocation 2011 viewed that positive dream, innovative ideas, skills, expertise and professionalism are absolutely essential prerequisites for socio-economic development in line with global changes. Presiding over the Convocation ceremony Dr Hasan Mahmud,Minister for Environment and Forests referring the scenario of higher education urged all universities, both public and private, to impart quality education and advised them not to make education a "commodity" in the greater interest of the nation.

IUBAT—International University of Business Agriculture and Technology stepped into a new phase of its achievement and glory having successfully holding Convocation 2011 at the permanent Campus at Uttara. Guardians, members of the Board of Governors, and large number of academics, dignitaries, diplomats, elites of the society, representatives of global collaborating universities, important persons of cross section of society including leaders of Uttara community attended this august ceremony and moved by the excellent arrangement.

The occasion heralded new enthusiasm, exuberance and academic flavor amongst the rank and file of IUBAT which is the first non-government university serving the higher education sector of country following advanced curricula and new methodology.The positive and pioneering role of IUBAT in country's higher education sector is recognized by academic circle and guardians..The university is marching ahead keeping strong mission and vision for human resource development with a view to establishing a knowledge-based society conducive to socio-agro-economic development.

Delegated the authority by Presided of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and Chancellor of IUBAT Dr. Hasan Mahmud, MP, Minister for Environment and Forest presided over the Convocation ceremony. He conferred degrees to 652 Masters and Bachelor Degree holders and 175 certificate recipients of different colleges and departments in presence of elegant gathering in this august function.

The Minister urged the universities to include practical education in their curricula as compulsory subject so that students acquire knowledge of reality alongside book- based learning. He said the country needs skilled, hard working, patriotic citizens imbued with human values to fulfill the goal of independence, which is yet to be fully achieved after 40 years of independence.Positive dream skills, expertise, innovative ideas and professionalism is required to facing the global changes and contribute socio-economic development of the nation, the Minister outlined. He called upon the new graduates to serve the family, society and the country by applying advanced knowledge and technology acquired through higher education at IUBAT, which he mentioned" the pioneer of establishing non-government universities in the country".

The Environment Minister pointed out that present world is a global village as such the government has given top most priority on higher education by allocating highest amount of resource in the national budget. The government has been pursuing national policy of “education for all “ has increased overall increase of literacy rate, reduced drop out from primary, secondary and higher secondary levels and made substantial decrease of dropout of female students.

Prof. Dr M Alimullah Miyan , Vice Chancellor of IUBAT expressed gratitude to the Hon’ble President of the Republic for his good gesture in delegating the authority and thereby helped the university to go on with the proceedings of the convocation.

Dr Miyan welcoming the august gathering detailed the background of establishing non-government university in the country.Highlighted the mission, vision and the operational objectives of IUBAT,Dr Miyan maintained that the validation of quality in education that we impart at IUBAT is achieved through institutional level collaborations with more than seventy institutions in all parts of the world. IUBAT has been accepted as member in a number of global scholarly bodies, which is a sign of maturity of our university. "I am proud to inform you that in this convocation ceremony some of our International Network partners are present to share our success' mentioning this the IUBA Vice Chancellor thanked the academic resource contributing partners at home and abroad.

Earlier, Prof. Dr. Gerald Reisinger, President, Upper Austria University of Applied Sciences, Austria, globally recognized academic spoke viewing higher education as the key to achieving socio-economic development in all fronts..He believed professionals of the present need to equip themselves with modern innovative ideas, skills and expertise.to for strengthening social advancement in all sectors in line with global changes.Education, is not only the key to personal development, but also the main key to success for a country striving to make its mark in competition between regions. IUBAT has achieved significant success during its 20 year' s contribution in academic field. through its colleges and think tanks and collaborative international esteemed partners.

Dr Miyan.lastly, hailed the government’s decision for creating a fund of Tk 100 crore under social service scheme for mass education and employment. He claimed, the decision of the governmental decision in this regard has resemblance with “Knowledge Based Area Development Program”(KBAD) pursued by IUBAT is an internal financing mechanism for deserving meritorious students. Dr Miyan demanded for increasing the fund to TK 1000 crore to facilitate production of more technical graduates in the country for strengthening the pace of agro based socio-economic development necessitated at this time of competitive global world.

Convocation 2011 Photographs of Graduating Student

Interested awardees are requested to register online to get their customized photographs recording formal awards at the convocation ceremony on December 21st. Each awardee will receive two different award giving pose snaps in a standard frame size photo-folder. Interested awardees may avail this faculty by depositing TK. 500.00 (Five Hundred Taka) for this package at the account section to cover costs. The photo-folder will be handed over on production of payment receipt at the counter where Gowns are to be returned.

STUDY OPPORTUNITY IN USA for EEE Department

Malaysia Delegation at IUBAT

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed on October 8, 2011 between Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) Malaysia and International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) Dhaka, Bangladesh. Prof. Dato Dr. Mohamad Muda, Vice- Chancellor on behalf of USIM and Prof Dr. M. Alimullah Miyan, Founder and Vice- Chancellor on behalf of IUBAT have signed the MOU. This MOU has been signed in accordance with the principles of friendship, equality and mutual benefit to strengthen friendship ties and to further mutual understanding between Malaysia and the Peoples’ Republic of Bangladesh. The USIM and the IUBAT have agreed to cooperate on all academic and institutional matters for their mutual enrichment.

This agreement include exchange of professors, selection of examiners, credit transfer, holding seminars and conferences , joint publications, enriching global muslim outreach network, management of halal food and establishment of Islamic banking. This MOU also keeps provision for mutual visits for exploring new areas of cooperation.

The visit is a follow –up of visit by IUBAT VC to USIM in June 2011. The delegation was led by Prof. Dato Dr. Mahamad Muda, Vice – Chancellor of the USIM- Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia consisted of Deputy Vice- Chancellor Prof Dr. Musa Ahmad, Dean of Medicine and Registrar. The MOU signing ceremony started with the welcome address by Mr. Tanvir H Dewan, Director, International Affairs. Then, Prof Dr. Musa Ahmad, Deputy Vice- Chancellor of the USIM highlighted his University through multimedia presentations, taking into consideration the geographical position, academic atmosphere, objectives, mission and vision. On the other hand, the academic and other activities of IUBAT was highlighted by Ms. Selina Nargis, Coordinator, international Program. Prof. Muda of USIM and Prof Miyan of IUBAT took part in the signing ceremony, escorted by the respective Registras. The ceremony was witnessed by Dr. M.A. Hannan, registrar from IUBAT and by Mr.Mohammad Haisuan bin Rosali and Prof Dato Dr. Nik Mohd Nasri, registrar and dean of the faculty of medicine and health sciences, respectively of USIM. Once the signing of the memorandum of understanding was over, Prof. Dato Dr. Mohamad Muda and Prof. Dr. M. Alimullah Miyan, illustrious as they are, spoke eloquently on the occasion. In their deliberations, they emphasized on the need and importance of cooperation between the two Universities and elaborated how higher education can bring intellectual social responsibility to a man and which in turn translate into a greater good to human welfare. Soon after the end of the remarks from both the Vice-Chancellors, a photographic session was held with the dignitaries present. Prof. Miyan led the delegates to different blocks and sections of the University to show the laboratories, classrooms, surroundings and other infrastructures. Despite the fact that ceremony fell on eid- holiday, many senior academics of IUBAT attended the program. The delegates and attending guests were entertained with high tea.

IUBAT is flourishing and expanding both in terms of quantity and quality. Since its inception, it has established links with over seventy countries across the globe covering all the continents. The signing of this MOU is a testimony to further step forward to this progressive process.

IUBAT has received query from its collaborating institution in USA, LOUISIANA TECH UNIVERSITY for nomination of two Bachelor of Computer Science and Engineering (BCSE) graduates for study in M.Sc Program with full scholarships. Convocation 2011 of IUBAT

Dear Alumna/Alumnus:

IUBAT—International University of Business Agriculture and Technology is pleased to announce that the honorable Chancellor of the university and President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, His Excellency Mr. Md. Zillur Rahman has kindly consented to preside over Convocation 2011 of the university. The Convocation will be held at IUBAT Premise, 4, Embankment Drive Road (off Dhaka-Ashulia Road), Sector 10, Uttara Model Town, Dhaka 1230 on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 11:30 AM. All persons who have been graduated from IUBAT with Master's degree, Bachelor's degree, Diploma as well as obtained Certificate in Short Courses offered by IUBAT from March 2006 – December 2011 are eligible to participate in the Convocation for confirmation of degree, diploma or certificate respectively.  

In order to participate in the Ceremony, you are requested to register in Room No. 206 of IUBAT from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM during university’s working days to confirm number of participants, gowns, dress rehearsal and make other necessary arrangements. The registration will begin on November 1, 2011 and will end on November 30, 2011. 

Separate invitation is being issued to alumni of the university who graduated between 1991 to February 2006 to participate in the designated sections of the Convocation ceremony.

58th Orientation Programs of  IUBAT For Fall Semester 2011 begins

Academics have to upheld intellectual honesty and professional integrity

Speakers at an orientation program of IUBAT viewed that problem in human life begins at the very moment of birth-cry and continue in various magnitude but those have to be solved with proper counseling, guidance and supervision. Experienced professionals of great deal of vision can help resolve all problems to help attain resounding success in life upholding intellectual honesty and professional integrity, they visualized.

The 58th Orientation program of International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) started today(Saturday) with  recitation from Holy Quran followed by National Anthem amidst beautiful environment  at the Lakeside Arena of the Campus on  the bank of river Turag surrounded by greenery. The function heralded a new exuberance of freshmen attended the occasion   for academic guidelines to march ahead in search of advanced knowledge and technology in line with global changes to serve in different areas at home and abroad. Chairs, Coordinators, Faculty Members of different colleges and Departments including alumni and invited guests attended the occasion.    

The two day’s Programs scheduled on October 1 and 2 for separately arranging the orientation by College of Tourism and Hospitality Management, College of Business Administration, College of Agricultural Sciences, College of Nursing, Department of Economics and College of Engineering at morning and afternoon sessions. 

Professor Dr M Alimullah Miyan, Vice-Chancellor of IUBAT speaking as chief guest at the orientation of College of Tourism and Hospitality Management and College of Business Administration organized today (Saturday) extended hearty welcome to all freshers of Fall Semester graduating in 2015. He highlighted the mission and vision underlining the cardinal principles on which all functions of the university have been   streamlined to  ensure:  (1) Human resource development for capacity development,(2) Knowledge creation through multiple process, (3) Enhancement of IT ability,(4)Fluency in speaking and communication in English for developing multi-cultural global vision,(5) Create insight  for Research and Publication(6) Overall grooming of students for converting them into professionals with skills and expertise for contributing to different  sectors off socio-economic life maintaining intellectual honesty and integrity.

Mr. Monirul Islam, Head of Human Resource, of Dhaka Regency guest of honour  terming hospitality as the boomerang department of the present world disclosed that 3(three) 5 star hotels are coming to be established in the country  for opening greater opportunity of the Tourism and Hospitality professionals, He praised IUBAT for playing pioneering role by opening the department and called upon the students to be equipped with latest technology to ensure  world class service for the clients in line with global changes.   

Earlier, Professor Mahmuda Khanum, Pro-Vice Chancellor advising  the freshers stressed on  counseling for  resolving problems in order to  build up  meaningful life  in the best interest of self and society.

 Prof. Aman Ullah, Chair, College of Tourism and Hospitality Management presided the orientation spoke among others Sheikh Ershad Hossain, Farzana Al-Ferdous, Mohammed Musa, faculty. Dr.ASM Masud, Coordinator College of Nursing, Mr Alamgir Bhyiyan, Faculty and System Administrator, computer Lab and Monwara Sarwar, Librarian briefed the new students in their respective areas.
