Professor at IUBAT
-
- Professor Eric Frank, retired
Professor of Management of the University of Bath, England
spent around one month in International University of Business
Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) as a Visiting Professor.
This is his third stint as a Visiting Professor in IUBAT and
is part of his continuing support to the university.

- During this visit, Professor
Frank worked on strategic development issues of the university
leading to preparation of short and medium term plan for
enlargement of local and international student body in the
context of the newly built campus with lots of facilities. He
also conducted consultative meetings and development workshops
for relevant faculty and officials.

- A reception was hosted in
honor of Professor Frank on the evening of January 23rd. Mr
Edward Probir Mondol, Coordinator of Business Programs spoke
on behalf of the faculty, while BBA student Abdullah Omur
Nasiful Islam spoke on behalf of the students. Mr Mondol
appreciated the efforts of Professor Frank in management
development programs of the university. Mr Alex Berland,
Advisor on Health Sciences in IUBAT from Canada spoke on
behalf of the visiting professors and commended the
contribution of Prof Frank in institutional development of the
university. Among others, the gathering was also addressed by
the Treasurer of IUBAT Col. Shafiqullah, Bir Protik.

- Prof Frank highly appreciated
the development of the university since his last visit in
2003. He commended the academic and physical development of
the university along with the move into the beautiful
permanent campus at Uttara. He spoke highly about the
commitment and dedication of the Founder towards development
of the university, nay the higher education in Bangladesh. He
made a clarion call to all members of the IUBAT Community to
work for development of the university as a great seat of
learning.

- In his presidential speech
Vice-Chancellor Professor Miyan deeply appreciated the
contributions of Prof Frank in development of the university
through teaching, counseling, curriculum development and
guidance in strategic maters over last 8 years. He has
developed the curriculum of the hospitality and tourism
program and helped in stabilising the business programs. In
the present visit, Prof Frank has evolved a strategic plan for
enlargement of the academic programs with enhanced
participation of international and local students. He also
announced the continued backstopping participation of Prof
Frank in the academic enhancement activities of IUBAT from his
British home base.

- The program ended with
refreshment in the IUBAT panoramic cafeteria and presentation
of token gift to the distinguished visiting professor. The
well attended function was ably conducted by BSME student
Rezaul Karim with support from Gul-E-Noor Ferdous of BSN
program and Badiul Alam Khan of BATHM program.

- CANADIAN FELLOW
CONDUCTING WORKSHOP IN IUBAT
- Ms Deirdre Evans, Community
Health, Vancouver Community Mental Health Service, Vancouver
Health Board, Vancouver, Canada and Visiting Fellow to
International University of Business Agriculture and
Technology (IUBAT) arrived at Dhaka on November 7, 2005 and
will be leaving for Vancouver on November 30, 2005.

- Ms Evans conducted classes in
psychiatric nursing and acted as observer professional in the
College of Nursing of IUBAT. She presented a daylong workshop
on Assessment and Treatment of Schizophrenia and Other
Psychotic Illnesses on Saturday, November 26, 2005 at the
Seminar Hall of IUBAT. The presenter focused on Schizophrenia,
a cruel disease, its prevalence as a stigma; characterized
abnormalities, symptoms in early, medium and severe stages of
the development of sickness. She deliberated on the age of
onset of the disease, gender differences, diagnostic work-up,
other illnesses and their defining features. The presentation
covered causes, treatment, rehabilitation, predictors of
outcome and reduction of stigma with intensive cost and care.

- The participants of the
workshop had two interactive sessions before and after lunch
and prayer break. Earlier, IUBAT’s College of Nursing had
invited professionals from medical colleges, hospitals,
nursing institute and college, members of rotary club, NGOs
and Govt organizations/departments.

- Sponsored by the Nursing College of IUBAT, the workshop
was attended by the Pro-Vice Chancellor Mahmuda Khanum, Chair
& Director of Nursing College, Dr Karen Lund and Faculty &
Coordinator RN Shamsun Nahar. Number of faculties of IUBAT and
students of nursing program and other programs too
participated in the workshop.

- Evaluation of the workshop
addressed a questionnaire on what exactly is schizophrenia.
The participants working in the broad spectrum of
schizophrenia exchanged their views with workshop leader Ms
Evans who painstakingly shared her practical experiences as a
counselor, observer and facilitator for providing drug crisis
and education services to clients referred by the hospital’s
Emergency Department. Sixteen participants belonging to
nursing profession from Nursing Institution, Hospital and
College received certificates of attendance. RN Hus-ne Ara
Begum addressed the audience on behalf of the participants.

- Incidentally, IUBAT’s current
programs include a 4-years Bachelor of Science in Nursing and
a Post Diploma Certificate Course in Nursing. Highlighting the
significance of the theme of the workshop the president of the
ceremony supplemented psychological intricacies of human mind
via-a-vis social disorders. Ms Gul-e-Noor Ferdous (Mitu) a
Bangladeshi Student and Ms Bimola Rai, a Nepalese student of
Bachelor of Science in Nursing acted as Masters of Ceremony at
the Certificate Awarding Ceremony. The workshop was rounded
off with refreshment and tea in the panoramic cafeteria of
IUBAT.
