This is an introductory course on nutrition. Topics include definition of nutrients, expanding field of nutrition, relationship of nutrition with other disciplines of science, human nutrition and nutrients: classification and function of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, minerals, vitamins, water; digestion and metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, minerals, vitamins and interaction between nutrients.

The course involves study of the nature and relationship between normal
and illness states for individuals according to their social status, cultures,
believes, family structure, career, education and life styles. Topics relating
to health, illness, response, recovery etc are also covered.
NUR 114 INTRODUCTION TO NURSING-I [3]
This is an introductory course to develop conceptual bases on various states of wellness and illness of individuals throughout the life span in different types of life conditions and health care setting. The developments in nursing profession and the challenges in the field are explored.
A laboratory course of 3 hours per week to explain nursing activities in a clinical setting.
NUR 116 INTRODUCTION TO NURSING-II [3]
P: NUR 114. Explores the conceptual and theoretical foundations of decisions relating to health, illness and nursing interventions. The course also covers the concepts of basic human needs, nurse-patient relationships, behavioral dynamics and social interactions.
This course is designed to provide laboratory experience in the clinical setting as a practical of NUR 116. Students will be taught in live situation in hospitals and clinics.
Introduction to anatomy with emphasis given to structures and balance at cell, tissues, and skeletal, nervous endocrine, excretory system and blood. The reproductive system of human body is also included.
In the lab, human dead body is used for anatomical investigation with special emphasis on histology.

The course deals with demographic issues relating to population control and family planning methods. Detailed exposition is made on traditional to modern methods of birth control and the involvement of nursing profession in family planning service delivery and maternal and child care (MCH) activities.

NUR 423 NURSING PROFESSIONAL ORIENTATION (3)
The course exposes the student to the different components of the professional role and the interrelationship between the nursing profession and society. Topics covered include role of the professional nurse, the relationship of nursing to historical, cultural, legal & ethical issues of professional nursing, theoretical frameworks of nursing practice, etc. The course also orients the students to various licensure examinations for becoming a registered nurse for practice as well as registration with the Bangladesh Nursing Council.
NUR 431 SEMINAR IN NURSING (2)
An independent study of the professional problems in nursing both in
theoretical and practical aspects, in order to gather information for analysis
and discussion. Ideas will be exchanged to obtain prescriptions to permit
personal and professional development.
NUR 451 RESEARCH IN NURSING (3)
P: NUR 116 and other Nursing courses. The course provides an introduction to general principles and concepts in nursing research with emphasis on critical appraisal of issues. A research project with report is required.
The course is designed to give students practical experience in real
life situations. The students is placed as a intern in a hospital or health
care organization for a semester and is also required to generate a nursing
problem related report for grading. There is an oral examination.
